Response to RoHS2
This page explains the RoHS directive in the AC adapter and switching power supply. Currently RoHS 2 is issued. For prohibited substances, maximum allowable concentration, target item, target category, etc. Please contact us if you need help.
The RoHS Directive (2002/95 / EC) was promulgated in the EU Gazette in 2011/65 / EU on July 1, 2011 as amended RoHS Directive. 2002/95 / EC is called RoHS 1, 2011/65 / EU is called RoHS 2. RoHS 2 has been replaced with RoHS 1 as the national law of EU countries by January 3, 2013, and now RoHS 2 is in force.
In other words, RoHS 1 has become the "old RoHS directive", so even if we comply with the contents of RoHS 1, it is not necessarily said that RoHS 2 is compatible with RoHS 2. Since the current RoHS directive is "2011/65 / EU (RoHS 2)", in order to comply with the RoHS directive, we must also conform to the newly added regulation content. The outline is as follows.
Prohibited substances and maximum allowable concentration
In the RoHS directive, substances that are restricted in use, so-called prohibited substances, are stipulated. Even at 2002/95 / EC, which was first enacted as the RoHS Directive, six substances (group) were designated in 2011/65 / EU which was effective as the revised RoHS Directive, but this prohibited substance was designated in June 2015 (EU) 2015/863 was promulgated in the Official Gazette on 4th, and 4 substances were added.
All four substances added are phthalic acid type substances. With the addition of four substances, the total number of prohibited substances has been reduced to 10 substances (group). (EU) 2015/863 has been replaced with Annex II in 2011/65 / EU, together with the concentration (maximum permissible concentration) allowable by 10 substances (group).
RoHS1 Prohibited Substances
- Lead: 0.1 w% (1,000 ppm)
- Mercury: 0.1 w% (1,000 ppm)
- Hexavalent chromium: 0.1 w% (1,000 ppm)
- PBB (polybromobiphenyl): 0.1 w% (1,000 ppm)
- PBDE (polybromodiphenyl ether): 0.1 w% (1,000 ppm)
- Cadmium: 0.01 w% (100 ppm)
Prohibited Substances Added to RoHS 1 in RoHS 2
DEHP (di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate): 0.1 w% (1,000 ppm)
BBP (butyl benzyl phthalate): 0.1 w% (1,000 ppm)
DBP (di-n-butyl phthalate): 0.1 w% (1,000 ppm)
DIBP (diisobutyl phthalate): 0.1 wt% (1,000 ppm
Target product (item) · Target category
The outline of the target product is an electrical and electronic device used in a voltage range not exceeding 1,000 V AC and 1,500 V DC (DC) as in RoHS 1, but " Equipment dependent on electromagnetic field, or equipment for generating, conducting, measuring electromagnetic field "condition is added.
In RoHS 1, the target was 10 categories, but RoHS 2 added the eleventh category as "other electrical and electronic equipment". Also, in Category 8 and 9, which were not covered by RoHS 1, the application start date was determined, and all of the 11 categories specified were covered.
- Large household electrical equipment
- Small household electrical equipment
- Information technology (IT) and telecommunications equipment
- Consumer electronics
- Lighting device
- Electrical and electronic tools (excluding large stationary machine tools)
- Toys, leisure and sporting goods
- Medical equipment
- Monitoring and control equipment
- Vending machine
- Other electrical and electronic equipment not applicable to the above categories
Regulation start time
The time when regulation of 10 substances in total including 4 substances added this time is started is determined by category.
- Categories 1 to 7, 11: July 22, 2019
- Category 8, 9: July 22, 2021
Correspondence of our AC adapter
We are preparing to develop at the end of 2015 and requesting compliance by explaining the RoHS 2 Directive in written form to parts manufacturers dealing with us from around August 2016 in January 2017 After 1st day, we have purchased parts compliant with RoHS 2 (2015/863 EU directive). For new manufacturers to be adopted in the future, it is a condition to be able to conform to RoHS 2.
We have revised our ISO regulation document "RoHS product management regulations" and started to deal with manufacturer factory audit from December 25, 2015.
Regarding the SGS report, since January 1, 2017, like the six substances of RoHS 1, the above four substances are added and managed so that all 10 substances can satisfy the RoHS 2 directive.
